Bruno and Caramel
Two beautiful, bonded dogs named Bruno and Caramel - 18 and 17 years-old respectively were surrendered yesterday to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter BARCS, because their owner has stage-four cancer, and has been transferred to a hospice facility. Unfortunately, there are no living family members equipped to take in Bruno and Caramel, and so they were brought to BARCS in hopes of finding them a new, loving, special person.
On Friday afternoon, the shelter put out a plea to their Facebook followers hoping to find a very special "angel" to help:
"An angel who, despite being made aware of Bruno's medical issues (arthritis, severe dental disease), is willing to say, 'Sweet babies, a shelter is not where your story ends. You have been loyal to your mom for nearly two decades, and so you will not spend another day uncertain of who will be by your side. I will get you guys out of the shelter and care for you no matter how much time you have left.'"
Caramel is very sensitive to her little brother, Bruno; she is his guardian. While being examined by the staff veterinarians, Caramel would pace between the staff and Bruno; giving him a kiss, giving the techs a kiss, another kiss from Bruno, and then another for the staff. If Bruno made the slightest noise, Caramel ran to his side.
"And, we can't even imagine what they must be thinking. 'How did we get here? Where's mom? Is this shelter our new home? It's a little too noisy for old loves like us.'"
When Caramel and Bruno are out on walks, they ignore other dogs. Caramel loves to sniff and Bruno loves to be held. If you are interested in adopting them, you can come right down to the shelter at 301 Stockholm St., Baltimore, MD 21230. To save time, you can shorten the process and waiting time by filling out an application online at www.baltimoreanimalshelter.org/adopt and emailing it email@example.com.
